Unilever relocated to AIR Offices in the centre of Rotterdam in mid-2025. The new workplace puts collaboration, inclusion, wellbeing and sustainability at its heart. Employees can choose from a variety of spaces and ways of working, from a quick online call or regular team meeting to presentations, training sessions and larger gatherings. Technology should make this easier, without adding unnecessary steps or uncertainty. This is particularly important in an international organisation where employees work with colleagues and other stakeholders around the world every day.
The challenge
Different spaces, one familiar way of working
A small meeting room requires something different from a Townhall designed for larger groups. But employees should not have to work out how the technology works every time they enter a different space. A consistent user experience was therefore important to Unilever. The audiovisual solutions needed to align with existing IT standards, be easy to operate and suit the purpose of each space.
Several spaces also needed to be flexible. The Townhall, for example, had to function as three separate rooms as well as one large space for presentations and events. Reuse was another consideration. Where existing equipment was still suitable for the new workplace, Unilever wanted to give it a second life.

The solution
The same user experience throughout the office
The meeting rooms are built around Microsoft Teams Rooms. From small meeting spaces to larger conference rooms, employees experience the same familiar way of working and can join a meeting at the touch of a button. The setup varies depending on the type of space. Larger meeting rooms, for example, feature two displays so that participants and shared content remain clearly visible at the same time.
Beyond the meeting rooms, AV also supports communication throughout the workplace. Digital signage in various locations is used for employee communications and sharing up-to-date information. At the entrance, a large LED wall creates a striking visual welcome and provides space for changing content.
This means the technology is tailored to the purpose of each space, while ease of use and a consistent experience remain central throughout the office.

A workplace where collaboration feels effortless
The new workplace supports different ways of working, from hybrid meetings and presentations to training sessions and larger gatherings. Although each space has a different purpose, the controls remain familiar and easy to use.
The Townhall provides additional flexibility. Earth, Water and Life can be used separately or combined into one large space for presentations and events. Digital signage supports internal communication throughout the building, while existing equipment has been reused wherever possible.
The result is technology that supports the way Unilever wants to work: flexibly, intuitively and connected with colleagues and stakeholders around the world.
