Sustainable AV solutions: how to reduce the environmental impact of displays

Do you want to reduce the environmental impact of your AV solutions? Then don’t start with a new display, but by understanding where the impact actually arises.

In episode 2 of the BRIX zero Podcast, host Marjolein Koens-Schaddelee discusses this with Hidde Schaap from Samsung Electronics Benelux.

Displays are indispensable in conference rooms, meeting rooms and digital signage. At the same time, organisations find it difficult to assess at which stage of a display’s life cycle the greatest sustainability impact occurs.

And if you don’t know where the impact lies, what you’re measuring and which factors you can influence, it’s difficult to make targeted choices.

So how do you ensure that sustainable AV doesn’t remain just an ambition on paper, but something you can actually work towards?

Listen to the podcast on sustainable AV and displays

In this episode, you’ll discover where, according to Samsung, the greatest impact of professional displays lies and what role insight, measurement and design choices play in reducing it.

Hidde Schaap explains why the usage phase in particular is important to focus on and how organisations can make more sustainable choices regarding their displays.

Episode summary

The majority of the CO₂ impact of professional displays does not arise during production or transport, but during the usage phase. In this podcast, Hidde Schaap explains why this is precisely where the greatest scope for influence lies.

Samsung has therefore integrated sustainability into the entire product process, from design and choice of materials to energy consumption and lifespan. For example, the energy efficiency targets set for 2030 have already been met and even exceeded. In addition, several production sites have been certified as ‘zero waste to landfill’, meaning no residual material ends up in landfill.

Innovations such as full-colour ePaper demonstrate that displays can also be used without continuous energy consumption. For organisations, this means that sustainable AV starts with asking the right questions: about energy consumption, lifespan, transparency and reuse. Measurement and insight make sustainable choices concrete and manageable.
